Why SHCS?

From the Principal
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6

Knowledge, character, service, partnership and leadership. Southern Highlands Christian School seeks to foster these key aspects of education in all our students from Prep to Year 12. Academic achievement is undertaken with consideration to the development of the whole person. SHCS offers a range of experiences in the classroom, in the community and overseas that challenge and enrich young people. Campus facilities and specialist staff provide excellent opportunities for all curriculum needs.

Our students' education is underpinned by a strong, Christian foundation of Biblical beliefs. We believe a good education extends students* experience and builds character. We do this in partnership with families for the education of their children.

Our students have many opportunities such as outdoor education, community service programs, Student Council and specialist days. These involve locations such as the School Mudslide, Bathurst Goldfields, Canberra, Bourke, Wollongong to Sydney walk, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Darwin to name a few. Cultural experiences and challenges such as these, expose our students to the needs of others. This helps students see how, they can make a difference both locally and globally. High School students use many of these experiences to attain their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Strong moral, cultural and academic values foster a genuine focus on the whole person in partnership with the home. All this combines to make SHCS a very special place for your child.

We desire that all our families feel valued in the SHCS community. I would welcome your enquiry for enrolment and look forward to meeting with you.

From the Students
Martin Luther King Jnr once said "that intelligence and character are the true goals of education".

In the environment of Southern Highlands Christian School, true education is seen at its best. Not only are the students receiving an academic education, they are building their characters and individuality through the strong Christian foundation that our school offers. The Christian principles and morals taught to us during our Biblical Studies classes were not left behind in those classrooms. The teachers, through their words and actions, display these morals both inside and outside school, helping us shape our characters and develop our knowledge of the world. This has given us a strong foundation for us to return to during the transition between childhood and adulthood, a deep understanding of our faith. We are equipped, not only with a good education but a set of Christian principles on which to build our lives.

Character, though important, is not the only element of a true education and it is evident that just as much emphasis is put on intelligence and academic achievement. School activities have provided students the opportunity to participate and excel in the gifts with which they have been blessed.

We would like to say thank you to the many teachers and parents who have given their valuable time to enable us to participate in these events. Without your support our school experience - the development of our intelligence and our character - would not have been as rewarding and unforgettable as it has been.

Speaking on behalf of Year 12 2007 particularly, we would like to thank the school community for the support given to us during our final year. This came in the form of prayer during our exams, teachers giving up time to give us extra classes and even in providing us with people to talk to when we were stressed. It has been a blessing to be part of such a supportive environment that has been with us at every turn throughout our entire school career.
