Prep
- Overview
- Selecting the right environment for your child to spend time in before the leap to 'big school' is an important decision. SHCS Prep offers an opportunity to cater for your child's current developmental needs, while also preparing them to ease quickly into a school environment. While set on the campus of the K -12 school, Prep is run as a completely separate program, with some integration activities planned for later in the school year. Prep has their own secure outdoor play area, however the children have the opportunity to use the facilities a school provides, such as the library, canteen and extensive grounds.
For parents there is the advantage of being able to drop off and pick up Prep and school age children at the one location. School policy however does state Prep children are unable to use Bus Travel to and from school.
Prep is supervised and run by an Early Childhood trained teacher with a full time assistant.
- Program
- Prep offers a program which caters to all areas of a child's development. For example, cognitive learning is nurtured by the type of math and language activities which will be built upon in their first year of school. Children in Prep are introduced to the wonders of creation, their part in caring for it, and the people who share it, based upon the truth of God's word. Developmental records are kept on each child to assess progress and ensure adequate provision.
Children will be challenged to explore and discover in an environment with boundaries which help them see the consequences of their decisions. Prep is a positive and nurturing place where children can experience just what fun learning can be.
- Enrolment
- Prep is open to children who turn four by the end of April and are thus able to enter Kindergarten the following year. A Prep enrolment form is available from the school office. Prep is currently operating three days a week, in a two or three day program.
- Times
- Prep class runs in normal school hours, from 8.45am to 3.15pm. Children may be dropped off from 8.40am and need to be picked up from parent pick-up at 3.15pm.
- What Prep Students Will Need
- Children need to bring their own packed lunch, morning tea, a drink and a cloth library bag. A change of clothes in case of an accident is also suggested. Prep school uniform is compulsory.
